The Ark Encounter

I recently visited the “Ark Encounter” exhibit in Williamstown Kentucky. My wife Sherl and three grandchildren were with me to enjoy the experience. It’s really quite a sight from one hundred feet away and even more so when you board the ship. The creator of this exhibit is Ken Ham with “Answers in Genesis” ministries which according to their website is “an apologetics ministry, dedicated to helping Christians defend their faith and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ effectively. We focus on providing answers to questions about the Bible—particularly the book of Genesis—regarding key issues such as creation, evolution, science, and the age of the earth.”
Ken Ham has debated Bill Nye the science guy and even given him a tour of “the Ark.” Bill was entertained but unconvinced. Bill believes the exhibit is entirely unscientific.

No doubt there were a lot of educated assumptions about how the story of the ark and the flood could be “proved” to be scientifically true at the Ark Encounter and some of them may be true and others seen to be wrong when the Lord explains these things in the future. (Perhaps we will get to see the video!).

I believe the most important thing my Ark Encounter has led me to consider is that while it is true that God has given us some scientific evidence of special creation and a worldwide flood, it is also true that other people find some evidence of their belief in evolution and some evidence to deny a world-wide flood.

I am grateful that there is some physical evidence available to support special creation and the worldwide flood but in the end, it still takes faith to accept these realities and God intends it to be that way. God leaves room for doubts so that people have freedom to deny if they want to. His love is like that. I don’t believe we will ever have enough “scientific” evidence to prove beyond a doubt for everyone that the earth was created in six days or that there was a world-wide flood but there is enough to convince me to believe what the Bible says. How about you? This is how I understand creation: “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” --Hebrews 11:3 NKJV. Speaking of skeptics in the last days Peter says,

“For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.” 2 Peter 3:5, 6
